Martin Palin (BSc Psych Hons; MSc Soc) is a psychologist with extensive experience in educating people about drug-use issues. He worked for four years as a senior educator with the TAFE Drug Education Unit in NSW, and has run drug education workshops for parents, teachers, students and the general community. He has also lectured Australian post-graduate university students on alcohol and other drug topics. He has published numerous articles on alcohol and other drug issues in Australia, and has undertaken roles such as Senior Health Education Officer at the Liverpool Drug and Alcohol Centre in Sydney's south west and Manager of the NSW Quit campaign. Martin has been involved in producing a wide range of drug education programs and resources for the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse. His main contributions have been in the areas of research, resource development, campaign management and evaluation. He now operates a private health care communications consultancy called Palin Communications.
Shelley Beatty (Dip Teach; B Ed; Postgrad Dip (Health Prom); MPH) is an experienced teacher, writer, workshop facilitator and university lecturer. Shelley was formerly a teacher in rural and metropolitan secondary schools before being invited to work in central office of the Education Department of Western Australia as health education curriculum writer. She then worked in the Health Promotion Branch of the Health Department of Western Australia where she coordinated state-wide drug education campaigns and projects. She has written numerous publications for schools and other organisations covering a range of health-related topics. Shelley is employed as a lecturer (Addiction Studies) at Edith Cowan University. She is also completing a doctoral program at Curtin University of Technology, and has researched ways to help parents talk with their children about drugs.
